About Me #

Hi there! I’m Neel Bhat. I’m a father of two and a Software Leader (although I’m still a maker at heart). I’m currently the Director of Software Engineering at Tovala.

My Background #

I’m passionate about using Technology/Software to solve tangible problems for people. I’ve spent the majority of my career at early and scaleup stage startups. I have more experience as a backend engineer, however have always been more of a generalist than a specialist and thus enjoy working across the whole stack when I can.

What I’m Working On #

Currently, I’m focused on:

• AI: Who isn’t at this point? Learning, building, setting our AI strategy at Tovala.
• Engineering Management: Building and running engineering teams
• Writing: This blog!

Beyond Code #

When I’m not coding, you can find me:

• Spending time with my wife and 2 kids. Becoming a Father has been the most rewarding experience I can think of. It also has taught me more lessons about managing humans than any course ever will.
• Traveling or hiking. I’ve been fortunate to be able to travel to many different countries around the world. Many trips with my wife and kids revolve around hiking of some sort.
• Cooking or eating food. I love food. I love cooking food. I love feeding people and enjoying a meal with good company. I especially love eating food from different cuisines from around the world.
